Bathroom Research Reveals Shocking Cleaning Stats

Cleaner brand Harpic has published some alarming facts and stats about bathroom bacteria.  Did you know that when you flush, an explosion of bacteria ridden water vapour is forced in the air?  The phenomenon is known as aerosolisation and it’s why you should always flush with the lid down.  Here’s what else we learned:

  • 40,000 germs per square inch can be found on the average toilet handle
  •  6,000 bacteria per sq inch contaminate bathroom taps.
  • These include E. coli, staphylococcus, streptococcus.

Warm and wet conditions double the number of germs present on surfaces, so clean your bathroom frequently, using a good anti-bacterial cleaning agent.  Pay close attention to door handles, light switches and even soap dispensers – all known hotspots.
